Summary

The After School Skills Support Paraprofessional is responsible for supporting students during after school hours to help them develop needed skills, such as following school rules, taking turns, sharing, and dealing with disappointment. The role also involves providing 1:1 or small group academic support and working collaboratively with peers, teachers, and students, while maintaining high expectations and upholding the Navigator school culture at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Student Supervision
  • Oversee student transition to other activities as well as pick up and dismissal
  • Perform supervisory duties for students during activities, including play
  • Provide supervision of student safety
  • Provide assistance with snack administration activities, and assist in cleaning of eating areas
  • Planning and Implementing Student Activities
  • Plan needed supports and lesson plans in collaboration with the site coordinator and group leaders
  • Implement restorative justice and PBIS practices to teach students social emotional and self regulation skills
  • Track student behavior using data (training provided)
  • Implement student accommodations as needed
  • Assist in the supervision and instruction of the whole group
  • Student Support
  • With the support of the Student Services department and teachers, assist students in areas of educational need
  • Assist students with increased academic or behavioral needs as assigned (training provided as needed)
  • Professional Expectations
  • Participate fully in all assigned staff meetings, professional developments and planning sessions
  • Prepare student activity plans as assigned
  • Participate fully in the coaching cycle (being observed, receiving real-time and post-lesson feedback, collaborate with coach on action steps, implement action steps, etc.)
  • Support the general day-to-day happenings of the school site
  • Uphold Navigator’s mission, values, and culture at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Qualifications

  • AA or BA Degree preferred, or High School Diploma and the passing of the Navigator Instructional Employee Assessment exam
  • Previous teaching, coaching or student supervision experience preferred
  • Commitment to student success and learning
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions
  • Desire to improve professionally, open to receiving coaching and feedback
  • Flexible to changing work environment; always presents with a positive attitude
  • Ability to read and write simple correspondence
  • Possesses effective communication skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
