Summary

The After School Group Leader Substitute is a part time, on call position. This roles is responsible for supervising students during after school hours by managing student check-in/out, overseeing transitions, and facilitating student engagement through planned enrichment activities such as sports, games, and art. The role includes providing support for special needs students, assisting with snack administration, and ensuring a safe and positive environment. The individual will also participate in staff meetings, professional development, coaching cycles, and contribute to day-to-day school operations, all while upholding Navigator Schools’ mission, values, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Student SupervisionSign students in to the afterschool program, and oversee student transition to other activities as well as pick up and dismissal
  • Perform supervisory duties for students during activities, including play
  • Provide assistance with snack administration activities, such as recording student receipt of snack, administering snacks, and assist in cleaning of eating areas
  • Planning and Implementing Student ActivitiesGroup leaders will plan activities in the areas of sports, games, art, and other enrichment activities
  • Student SupportWith the support of the Student Services department and teachers, assist special needs students in areas of educational concern
  • Assist students with special needs as prescribed (Training provided as needed)
  • Professional ExpectationsParticipate fully in all assigned staff meetings, professional developments and planning sessions
  • Prepare student activity plans as assigned
  • Participate fully in the coaching cycle (being observed, receiving real-time and post-lesson feedback, collaborate with coach on action steps, implement action steps, etc.)
  • Support the general day-to-day happenings of the school site
  • Uphold Navigator’s mission, values, and culture at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Qualifications

  • AA or BA Degree preferred, or High School Diploma and the passing of the ParaPro exam
  • Commitment to student success and learning
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions
  • Desire to improve professionally, open to receiving coaching and feedback
  • Flexible to changing work environment; always presents with a positive attitude
  • Ability to read and write simple correspondence
  • Possesses effective communication skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
  • Pre-Employment ProcessEmployment eligibility will include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
