Summary

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for promoting lawful behavior and protecting the welfare of students, staff, and parents as a uniformed presence on campus. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with peers and students, have a deep commitment to student safety, hold students and self to high expectations, and uphold Navigator Schools culture at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Essential DutiesMonitor behavior of individuals around and within the barriers of the school site
  • Ensure all school site buildings and property are secured
  • Investigate disturbances and reporting suspicious activity
  • Enforce regulations and maintain order during events
  • Safety MonitoringMonitor the physical safety of the school site buildings by locking and unlocking doors
  • Patrol and monitor the school site on foot and with the use of surveillance systems
  • Monitor alarm system and respond to alerts
  • Serve as a crossing guard for staff and students, and enforce traffic and parking regulations
  • Serve as support staff at special events after school hours
  • Lead building and grounds security by locking all doors and gates after use and at end of work day
  • Emergency ServiceServe as a first responder to any emergency situation on campus
  • In the case of an emergency, respond on scene, provide first aid and alert additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate
  • Maintain radio communication with other safety personnel and school site admin
  • Assist in coordinating emergency plans
  • Write and submit detailed incident reports to supervisors or law enforcement as appropriate
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and consistent with the Navigator Schools Code of Conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Additional Site SupportSupervise students during recess, lunch, and transition times
  • Provide substitute coverage for food service, custodial, and yard duty as assigned by your supervisor
  • Support the custodial and operations team during school breaks
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Qualifications

  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and/or training and experience, which will provide the necessary skills and knowledge
  • Security guard license required
  • Demonstrate and utilize safe working habits
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instruction
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including students
  • Read and write at the level required for successful job performance
  • Set priorities and develop an organized daily work plan
