Responsibilities

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Six units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required
    • Valid CA Child Development Assistant Permit (Required for Title 5 programs)
    • Infant/toddler Child Development Coursework (3 units) preferred for infant classrooms
    • CPR and First Aid Certified
    • Proof of immunizations against influenza, pertussis, and measles
    • Knowledge or becoming knowledgeable about Title 22 and Title 5
    • Written and verbal communication skills in English
    • Physical agility to lift up to 40 lbs to shoulder height
    • Must be able to walk, squat, bend, and stand; ability to move freely to supervise and engage in indoor and outdoor activities with children
    • Ability to sit at low tables, on small, low chairs, on the floor or on the ground, and in classrooms of various configurations for extended periods of time
    • Ability to drive personal vehicle as needed
    • Hearing and speaking to exchange information with students, families, colleagues, and the school community
  • KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
    • Responsible for visually supervising children and maintaining teacher/child ratios according to Title 22 and Title 5 to ensure the well-being, health, and safety of all children
    • Assists in providing verbal and/or written communication with parents of any incidents, first aid administered, or any other health-related issues
    • Builds relationships and works collaboratively with a diverse population of students, co-workers, parents, and school staff
    • Maintains an orderly and safe environment that is well-organized and prepared for the children
    • Initiates requests for supplies, materials, and equipment
    • Responsible to care for and protect school property and to efficiently use supplies and equipment
    • Assists in developing, planning, and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for both indoor and outdoor
    • Assists in completing and maintaining compliance in the program quality and assessment processes
    • Shows respect, flexibility, and sensitivity towards children at all times
    • Maintains confidentiality of children, families, and employees
    • Supervise the use of the restrooms and assist in toilet learning
    • Participates in district professional learning and attends additional learning opportunities to meet the required 21 professional growth hours per year
    • Assists other centers when requested
    • Attends meetings as requested
    • Performs other duties as assigned
