Summary

The Design Lab Technician at MacDonald High School, under the direction of an assigned supervisor, will provide instructional assistance to individuals or groups of students in a maker space or design lab learning environment. The role involves operating, adjusting, and maintaining a variety of hi-tech equipment related to maker space and design labs. Additionally, the technician will respond to questions, train, and assist students and staff as needed with programs and equipment. Candidates must have knowledge of design and/or engineering practices in relation to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; modern technological equipment, including robotics, electronics, video creating, 3-D design/printing, and other tools to assist in design processes; and operation, adjustment and minor maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment. Qualifications include a high school diploma and one year of experience working with school-age children in an organized setting, as well as some experience in maker space or design lab operation. This part-time position is for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year, with hours to be determined, and is contingent on annual funding, currently only funded for the 2024-2025 school year.

Qualifications

  • Under the direction of an assigned supervisor:
    • Candidate will provide instructional assistance to individuals or groups of students in a maker space or design lab learning environment
    • Operate, adjust and maintain a variety of hi-tech equipment related to maker space and design labs
    • Respond to questions, train and assist students and staff as needed with programs and equipment
  • Candidate must have knowledge of:
    • Design and/or engineering practices in relation to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
    • Modern technological equipment, including robotics, electronics, video creating, 3-D design/printing, and other tools to assist in design processes
    • Operation, adjustment and minor maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment
    • Computers and computer use in an instructional environment
    • Child guidance principles and practices
  • Skills Required:
    • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
    • Good oral and written communication skills
    • Good interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Qualifications:
    • Graduation from high school
    • One year experience working with school-age children in an organized setting
    • Some experience in maker space or design lab operation
    • Ability to learn on the job
    • Provide instructional assistance to students in a variety of subject areas and activities focused on design and prototyping
    • Demonstrate a patient, understanding, and receptive attitude toward students, including those with special needs and/or disruptive behaviors
    • Ability to type at an acceptable rate of speed
    • Perform a variety of clerical duties including maintaining records
